A Community of Practice (CoP) approach to teaching and learning in higher education provides a collaborative space for staff to reflect, review, and enhance their current teaching and learning practices.

TELTA introduced the CoP program, specifically targeting primary school teachers who teach the English language to enhance their capacity. The success of this program came after TELTA won a grant provided by IATEFL annually, enabling several regions to benefit from it.

Through the CoP program, Ward Education Officers and subject teachers convene to discuss teaching challenges, learn 21st-century pedagogical methods, develop teaching tools collaboratively, and explore instructional games and various songs. These activities are facilitated in collaboration with leading teachers from TELTA.

TELTA views the Community of Practice as a platform where teachers can meet face-to-face to learn from one another by addressing challenges and sharing best practices. The structure of a community of practice typically revolves around problem-solving stages: identification, analysis and planning, reflection and consolidation, dissemination and evaluation. TELTA considers this platform crucial for addressing various teaching and learning challenges practically.

To ensure teachers benefit from these gatherings, several centres have been established across the country. Before establishing these centres, coordinators underwent training supported by IATEFL after TELTA won the project fund grant in 2018.
