From May 18-20, 2024, six English language teachers from Tanzania represented TELTA at the annual African Lake Zone English Language Consortium (ALZELC) conference in Addis Ababa. Their participation in this event underscores TELTA’s commitment to professional development and collaboration, fostering connections and sharing expertise with fellow educators across the African continent.

The theme of the conference was This 4th African Lake Zone English Language Consortium (ALZELC) was hosted by The Regional English Language Office (RELO) at the U.S. Embassy in Addis Ababa, in partnership with the Ethiopian English Language Professionals’ Association (EELPA). The conference was entitled, “Empowering African Teachers’ Associations and Enhancing English Language Teaching through 21st Century Skills.” A total of 160 participants from Ethiopia, Djibouti, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda attended the event.

During the conference, Teachers Associations Heads and Representatives from Africa Lakes Zone Region emphasized the need for teachers’ continual training and professional development to provide their students with the education they deserve.
